IFA FinPlan: Adjusting the Privacy and Alerts Settings

IFA_FinPlan Alarm

To get the most out of IFA FinPlan, we suggest taking a few minutes to adjust your privacy and alerts settings. This process is initiated by clicking on the “settings” link in the upper-right-hand corner of the IFA FinPlan home screen. The “Privacy” tab will allow you to set the detail level of your spending that you wish to be visible to your advisor. The “None” setting (which is the default) will not allow your advisor to see any of your spending. The “Limited” setting will allow your advisor to view only category spending and budgets. The “Full” setting will allow your advisor to see all spending data including transactions.

The “Alerts” tab allows you to fully control the delivery of alerts to both your e-mail and your IFA FinPlan home page. Here are some of the personal finance alerts that we find particularly useful:

  • Low Cash Balance—when the balance of any cash account falls below a pre-set level.
  • High Credit Balance—when the balance of any credit card rises above a pre-set level.
  • Large Expenses—when any expense occurs in excess of a pre-set level.
  • Large Deposits—when any deposit occurs in excess of a pre-set level.
  • Bank Fees—when any bank fee occurs that is greater than a pre-set level.
  • Budget Exceeded—when your spending exceeds any of your budgets.
  • FICA Maximum Approaching—when you are nearing you FICA maximum withholding for the year.

Some important time-based reminders include:

  • End of Year Planning
  • Anniversaries of Insurance Policies
  • Tax Filing Dates (either quarterly or annually)
  • When eligibility for Social Security begins
  • Required Minimum Distributions for IRA accounts
  • Customized Dates such as birthdays and anniversaries
